I picked up the Zero prequel today. And what did you think of it? Gameplay and story wise? Was it too slow paced?
I bought it blindly and now that I'm looking into it. I noticed there's a dating sim aspect to it, so I'm expecting some what of a harem in this game. I haven't played a game like that since Thousand Arms.
Is this overly done? I would prefer something serious over a bunch of shitty fanservice and ero-loli. Thousand Arms wasn't too bad. The game itself was decently serious with the dating limited to just crafting.
Play Agarest War Zero then Agarest War 2, you can skip Agarest War one since there isn't really much of a point to playing it because Agarest War Zero includes that storyline that's condensed as well.As for gameplay, the battles are painfully tedious and slow. Agarest War 2 is better in that regard. It's very fanservice-y with tons of anime tropes and the story is so-so so don't expect a serious story. You get to choose the girls you want to marry your MC off to get a child which go on to become your next new MC, it's very similar to Phantasy Star 3 and Fire Emblem: Awakening. There's tons of missables and getting a True Ending is impossible without a 100% guide.
So unless you're looking for something very hardcore and have plenty of patience to spare, then this series probably isn't for you.I loved Cross Edge and thought those games would be as fun but I was mistaken. I suffered through Agarest War 1 & 2 and gave up on Agarest War 2 about 20 hours into when I didn't have anything else good to play last year.
I know Cross Edge received some bad reviews but felt they were mostly unjustified. It is really fun and have one of best battle systems once you get into it as it have a steep learning curve. If you're one of those guys who prefer gameplay over story, you'll enjoy this game very much as there is plenty to do in this game. It have huge variety of characters from other games as well as original characters and excellent artwork / sprite arts. High replay value as well since you can choose from about +50 characters that bring their unique movesets to put together. I sank about +200 hours into the game plating it and regret nothing as it was one of first PS3 games I picked up along with Disgaea 3 / Valkyrie Chronicles right after purchasing PS3 system. Only minor issues are few glitches and some games may freeze sometimes from what I heard but it haven't occurred to me.
This may be not for everyone tho, it require a hardcore mindset to truly appreciate this game. I'm seconding this. I'd heard the gameplay was so-so, but holy shit. It is really that awful.
The battle system just has so much to it that it's a mess and if you don't do everything 100% right, it's not hard to get roflstomp'd by enemies. The really pathetic part? PSN has all kinds of free add-ons that give you game-breaking items and shitloads of money.
It makes the game so much easier, although I pretty much quit right after finding out about the codes. Terrible game that the devs tried to alleviate by releasing game-ruining codes. I bought the limited edition and still want my money back even though the extras are cool.
